Great Allegheny Trek

Trek Overview

Trek Description

Spend 16 days biking with us, on trails without automotive traffic from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC on the Great Allegheny Passage (Rail to Trail) and the C&O Canal Tow Path. This scenic route winds alongside the Youghiogheny River to Ohiopyle, PA, where you’ll get to go whitewater rafting and see Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, a unique, cantilevered house built out over a waterfall.  From there we’ll bike across the Salisbury Viaduct, bike through three railroad tunnels and bicycle through historic railroad towns as we journey towards Cumberland, MD.
From Cumberland we’ll bike along the C&O Canal Tow Path including a ride through the historic Paw Paw tunnel. We’ll also visit Civil War-era sites at Antietam Battlefield and Harpers Ferry, ride a 19th century canal boat, and spend 2 days in our nation’s capital. The automobile free and gently graded bicycle trails that we follow make the Great Allegheny Passage Trek perfect for younger and/or beginner bikers.
