Today we did a whopping 83 miles, a new world record (LOL). The scenery transitioned from prairies filled with buttercups and cows to windy mountain roads by the Middle Fork/Clearwater/Selway rivers. It was some serious cinema. We stopped in Kamiah for lunch and met some cool old timers, Marvin and Liza. This bakery has the best cookies and such sweet staff that put wind in our sails. We also met a woman Yvonne, who approached us at the grocery store blessing us and telling us to be careful. She was so nurturing it was like we all knew each other. After lunch in cool little park where kids were dressed like Spider-Man and the town’s art was on display, we passed Pyro Paulie’s, the local fireworks fella who took the job after Wild Bill retired. We also took a dip in the river while in Kooskia, and some local gentlemen working working on a boat laughed very hard as the boys realized how cold the river water was. Perfect timing though for a hot day, and it’s also important to note that we loved everyone’s style in these parts. We met a farm dog and named him Buford, and saw a bridge that was very reminiscent of the bridge in Stand By Me. Lastly, we also met a man named Eric who is also going across the country but doing the trans am route to Virginia instead. It was fun to meet a fellow traveler and we only wish we could have talked longer!
