You will travel through viaducts where railroads once cut across valleys and bike through towns where coal was once prominent. These two historic trails make up 350 miles of biker-friendly gravel paths, free from car-traffic with easily accessible campsites along the entire route. There are opportunities along the trail to visit Civil War-era sites at Antietam Battlefield and Harpers Ferry, ride a 19th century canal boat, and spend 2 days in our nation’s capital.
Natchez Trace Trail
Ride along one of North America’s oldest travel routes—the Natchez Trace Parkway, stretching 444 miles from Mississippi to Tennessee. Ride through history where Native American nations once traded and Civil War soldiers once marched, all on a peaceful, vehicle-free parkway. With historic landmarks, nature stops, and stories at every turn, this route offers a vivid journey through America’s past.

One of the oldest transportation routes in North America, the Natchez Trace Parkway spans 444 miles between Natchez, Mississippi and Nashville, Tennessee. Today, you can bike the path American Indians once travelled and traded. The corridor connects the homelands of the Natchez Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations. The entire parkway is designated as a bike route by the National Park Service, with commercial traffic prohibited.
There are numerous historical and natural sights to stop and explore the Old Southwest, Civil War era-sites, and remnants on the Old Trace with historical markers to narrate the way. Groups can bike a portion or all of the Nathez Trace Parkway and take a tour through native and Civil War history.
Erie Canalway Trail
Follow the path that transformed America on the Erie Canalway Bike Trail—over 350 miles of mostly flat, car-free paths stretching across New York State. Ride through vibrant cities like Rochester and Syracuse, cruise past historic locks and aqueducts, and stop in charming small towns for local flavor. With educational opportunities, heritage sites, and even canal cruises along the way, this ride blends adventure with history at every turn.
