Great Allegheny Passage/C&O Canal
Bike a portion or all of the Great Allegheny Passage (150 mi.) and C&O Canal Towpath (184.5 mi.) from Pittsburgh- Washington D.C. and take a trip through history. Retrace the development of America's westward expansion. You will travel through viaducts where railroads once cut across valleys and bike through towns where coal was once prominent. These two historic trails make up 350 miles of biker-friendly gravel paths, free from car-traffic with easily accessible campsites along the entire route. There are opportunities along the trail to visit Civil War-era sites at Antietam Battlefield and Harpers Ferry, ride a 19th century canal boat, and spend 2 days in our nation’s capital.

Natchez Trace Trail
One of the oldest transportation routes in North America, the Natchez Trace Parkway spans 444 miles between Natchez, Mississippi and Nashville, Tennessee. Today, you can bike the path American Indians once travelled and traded. The corridor connects the homelands of the Natchez Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations. The entire parkway is designated as a bike route by the National Park Service, with commercial traffic prohibited. There are numerous historical and natural sights to stop and explore the Old Southwest, Civil War era-sites, and remnants on the Old Trace with historical markers to narrate the way. Groups can bike a portion or all of the Nathez Trace Parkway and take a tour through native and Civil War history.

Erie Canalway Trail
With over 350 miles of trail crossing almost the entire state of New York, the historic Erie Canalway offers ample opportunity to discover an iconic American route. The Erie Canal runs east-west from Albany-Buffalo, passing through major upstate New York cities including Rochester, Syracuse and Utica. The Canalway is mostly flat, with predominately off-road gravel paths, occasionally utilizing local roads. Bicyclists of all abilities and levels can enjoy riding the Erie Canalway, with plenty of stops through small towns to break up the route. As the longest manmade waterway and greatest public works project in North America, traveling along the Erie Canalway provides plenty of educational opportunities. Discover how the Erie Canal put New York state on the map as the leader of industry and economic strength and opened a doorway for trade and settlement opportunities in inland North America. Bike through history as you travel through impressive aqueducts and lock systems, with opportunities to explore canal museums and heritage sights. Take a canal cruise, paddle the water trail, explore canalside villages and more can be experienced along the Erie Canalway Bike Trail!
