About Us

Teen Treks started in 2001, as Executive Director, Cliff Madell wanted to make sure his son, Tyler could look forward to a future of self-contained bike touring. Birthed out of the Youth Hostel Movement, Teen Treks later became an independent non-profit hosting 17 bike adventures across the U.S., Canada and Europe. Teen Treks has always strived to foster a spirit of adventure that provides teens opportunities to gain independence, explore about the world around them, realize their capabilities and enjoy the freedom of traveling by bicycle.

From cooking oatmeal as tents are being packed away to sharing stories from the day over an evening campfire, there is an entire journey in-between. A day on a Teen Treks’ trip can often feel like a week of normal every-day life. The sights, sounds and surprises are plentiful as groups travel from one destination to the next. Discover more of what a day in the life of a Teen Treks’ trip is like!

Teenagers are in a formative stage of learning who they are and gaining skillsets that prepare them to be independent adults. Teen Treks’ bike trips offer an explorative environment where teens can disconnect from everyday pressures, grow through new and challenging experiences, and learn more about themselves in collaborative group setting. Every day, trek groups send in a blog entry detailing the events of their day for family and friends to follow along. We hear about the scenic routes filling the day’s agenda, the fun stops along the way, and the individual roles trekkers played to complete the daily group objectives. It’s always great to hear about summer trips from the trekkers’ perspective!
Teen Treks gives teenagers the chance to discover the excitement and challenge of bike touring within an intimate group setting, seeing beautiful natural landscapes and world-class cities while gaining independence and travel skills. We help teens find great experiences out on the road and make memories that will last a lifetime.
