California Coast Trekkers Have a Hilly and Ice Cream- Filled Day

We started our day at 7am waking up to another foggy sky even though we were hoping for a tank top day.

😢

We ate some breakfast, whatever we had left which was some fun oatmeal packets of varying flavors and bacon (dripping with grease of course). We got on the road kind of early and had some ROUGH hills in only 10 miles to get to our little gorda store!! We spent a LOT of money on not a lot of items, but it was ok because we get free sugar packets and Ben and Jerry’s and didn’t have to get the $10 dollar gas (#poweredbymuscle) we kept pushing for another 10 miles and destroyed the two hardest hills which we were sadly expecting due to Holdens extensive knowledge on our path, but it was light work no reaction because we’re ripped now. We finally got to some civilization for a cute lunch spot, and ate some questionable sandwich combos with hot dog buns and got some more sunscreen on since the UV was POPPING!! We got back out and it was way flatter, we even got to see some really cute elephant seals and hit some sack by their chilling spot on the viewing boardwalk. We also learned that male elephants seals lowkey get around in the winter… anyways we had to keep chugging, so we found another grocery store that was super cute and expensive again… where we picked up some sensible dinner goods and ate some leftover hot dog buns dipped in the rest of the peanut butter. We biked a tiny bit to go to the Hearst castle tour!! Activities budget finally spent!!! We went on a cute bus up the hill where we were promised to see zebras and DIDNT, and then realized that the personal zoos by the castle were low-key unethical. When we got to the tour, Jane asked a question about citizen cane, to which our tour guide replied “I love gossip” (…) and proceeded to take the WRONG side in the citizen cane – Hearst family drama. We walked around the castle keeping our feet on the carpet (except for some of us…) at a begrudgingly slow pace and made it through the tour, learning a lot of cool facts about rich and bad people who are dead. We made it out alive and continued basically 5 miles to our final store stop and got the ONLY vegetable for dinner (in attempts to score good on nutrition criteria) and killed the last 1 mile to get to the campsite. The cooking crew started working hard while everyone else either explored the shower situation or snuck down to the puddle beach to scout out places to secretly double dip in the communally purchased Nutella.

(they were stopped). We finally had our delicious dinner and scarfed it down along with another pint of ice cream per usual, our third for the day. We also had Oreos later artfully arranged on a frisbee. We then had our group meeting, talked about the day, and assigned roles for the next!! We are so excited to finally get to reasonably priced grocery stores and cute bike shops.
