Yesterday, after some of the boys completed their first centuries, we were bombarded by lightning, rain and sprinklers which most of us enjoyed except for Peter who was basically planning for the apocalypse. Waking up early the next morning to beat the heat, we were pleasantly surprised to see that the Gatorade Powder had exploded all over our food bags in the storm. As we got on the road, the temperature started rising quick. By 11:00, we wouldn’t be surprised if our shoes started sticking to the pavement. Just before we all melted, a gas station in Billings fizzled into view from the distance like an oasis in the desert. Some of us stayed at the “oasis” while others went to a lake to swim. Afterward, we met back up to eat Chinese food and go to the grocery store for a much needed food audit(Gatorade powder everywhere). We destroyed a pizza buffet for dinner and biked to our first hotel of the trip in preparation for an even hotter day tomorrow.
