California Coast Trekkers Enjoy Hotel Luxuries

It’s the Fourth of July. It’s also a perfect cloudy day for biking another forty miles down the coast. Our day starts with a half-made pancake breakfast at Hostel Obispo. Coffee, syrup and the like. We leave shortly after and quickly make it down to Pismo Beach. After putting on some tunes, we fly down another 10 miles south, but are interrupted by sandy terrain. Dragging our bikes through the sand–horses staring at us–we finally make it out of the desert. From there (Los Berros), we only have six miles left. We get into our Santa Maria Hotel at 1 o’clock. The food committee takes their time planning a meal at the local Hispanic market. Eventually we make a tasty lunch of wraps and guacamole before jumping into the hotel pool. Then the trek splits into two groups, one to go downtown, and another to relax at home base. We meet back up around 5 and watch some YouTube before we can’t for another 7 days. Then the dinner crew begins their burrito bowls under the shelter of the hotel stairs, while it begins to rain. Within moments the rain clears and we head out to the pool for a three course meal: Caprese appetizers, burrito bowls, and Oreo horchata. Our day ends with a movie night (Spider-Man Homecoming), and then hitting the hay before another day on the road tomorrow.
