No alarms or bugs to buzz us awake, just sea slugs slicking slimy wakes across our tents, we slept in, crept out, then sluggishly slogged into town after breakfast. First stop, the espresso shop. Except for Lowen and Elliot, who made a 36 mile loop of the island at the crack of dawn.
The rest, once in town, kickstarted their shopping, browsing, and ice cream hunting. Some opted for the beach to seek out seals, though none were there to be seen. Others sought the laundromat to refresh and starch their garments. Others still found choice outlets for Garmins.
We convened at the town’s main grocery terminus to acquire foodstuffs for the day, making use of the hot bar and deli to the two employee’s mild dismay. Bellies convexed, we split again.
Later, a couple braved the cold waters of Lopez Sound, as the rest cheered on. A sound decision. Back by six, we began a roundly nutritious self-serve burrito station and made an early night of it after sharing our highs and lows.
Tomorrow we’re looking to strike out at record pace to catch an early ferry, then crush our mileage tomorrow. We have dispensed with ‘Pez.
